Renovation support

Heat pump subsidies in canton Zurich

Zurich supports air/water heat pumps and ground/water or water/water heat pumps when they replace a fossil or electric heating system. The rate is flat up to a given output, then proportional to each additional thermal kilowatt, with the geothermal variant considerably better funded.

The amount depends on the determining output, which is itself capped relative to the energy reference area: that cap, not the installed output, bounds the contribution.

Covered rates and scope

Indicative official rate. The final amount depends on the application and cantonal decision.

Points to check

  1. Confirm the replaced system is fossil or electric — swapping one heat pump for another does not qualify.
  2. Check the determining output recognised, capped in thermal watts per square metre of energy reference area.
  3. Distinguish the air/water variant from ground/water or water/water: their rates are not comparable.
  4. File the request before works begin and wait for the decision.

Submit the application and wait for the decision required by the programme before starting work or making a binding commitment.
